Choose whose report to believe!

Today I am prompted by the Holy Spirit to encourage someone out there who has received spirit-dampening reports. Many of us fail to realize our dreams as a result of what somebody has said about us. This may sound mere but it actually really goes a long way in determining your future especially if you don’t know God. Nevertheless, the bible says in Lamentation 3: 37, “who is it that speaketh and it cometh to pass when the Lord commanded it not”? No matter what anybody says, if God’s power is not in their words, the words are empty. They will not come to pass and will not work or produce results. By saying God’s power is in their words I mean if there is scriptural reference in what they are saying.

The word of God is full of good reports regarding you and me. After all, Jesus Christ did not come to this world to judge people, to tell them how bad and worthless they were in the sight of God. He did not come to point out our faults, but rather to point them to God the father (John 3:17). Jesus witnessed without condemning people. By not mentioning their sins Jesus was certainly not condoning them nor did he think the sins were unimportant. Jesus understood a truth that we need to grasp. Murder, adultery, sexual perversion, drug addicts, etc. are not the problem; they are only symptoms of the problem. The problem is not being in a right relationship with God. Jesus dealt with the problem and not the symptoms. And that is why He washed away our sins on the cross so that we could be free. This is the good report. It gives you and me the right to comfortably claim all that word says about me!

However, there is always a part for us to play. A role called – Co-operating with God. When we learn to work together with God in obedience, we will live a life free of worry and free of negative reports. You will not care what people say. Actually, you will barely receive any bad reports. How do we work with God? Through love and unity in the body of Christ. We should be interested only in building the Kingdom of God and not pursuing our own enrichment. It says in Psalm 75:6–7, “Promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” If you do your part in building the Kingdom, God will promote you personally. He will make others give a good report of you. This is giving unto God. It is partly what Matthew 7:7 has always implied. I believe when we make this a practice especially through our service in church, we will afford to think about the things (Philippians 4:8) talks about; and they will come to pass.
